Officer/board member bios

Amy Restivo, BVCPA President

Amy graduated from Texas A&M University, in 2006, with both a B.B.A. in Accounting and a M.S. in Accounting.  Prior to graduating from Texas A&M University, she was with Bank of America for over nine years and served in the roles of Banking Center Manager, Assistant Banking Center Manager, Personal Banker, and Teller.  In December of 2006, Amy resigned from Bank of America and shortly thereafter joined the firm of Brewer, Eyeington, Patout & Co., LLP.  In May of 2010, Amy became a CPA.

In 2010, Amy joined the Chapter Board as the Public Relations Co-Chair and served in that role for one year.  The following year, she began serving in the role of Secretary and is still currently in that role.  She also serves on the TSCPA’s Practice Issues Committee.

Amy is married to Robert Restivo, who also graduated from Texas A&M University, and she has three children.  Ashley, 18, graduated from A&M Consolidated High School in May and is now enrolled at Blinn.  Ashley’s goal is to attend the University of Houston and study Graphic Design.  Rylie Marie, 3, and Sophia Elaine, 19 months, are two peas in a pod and keep the rest of the family busy and smiling.  Rylie Marie loves the Aggie Band and going to Step Off prior to each Aggie home game.  Sophia Elaine is the family comedian and is always looking to jump and climb on anything in sight.

bassA.J. graduated from Texas A&M University in May of 2011 with a BBA in Accounting and a MS in Accounting. After graduation, he worked for Ernst & Young and became a CPA in 2012. He gained a broad range of experience in individual, corporate, and partnership taxation at Ernst & Young prior to joining Thompson, Derrig & Craig in 2014.

A.J. joined the Chapter Board in 2016 as the Public Relations director and has been an active member in the chapter since 2014.

A.J. and his wife, Lisa, have two children, Luke and Hannah. A.J. and his family enjoy vacations, time at the park, and Aggie football. A.J. in particular enjoys anything Dallas Cowboys or San Antonio Spurs. He is hoping his kids will become avid fans.

Tara BlasorTara Blasor graduated from A&M in 2007 with BBA in Accounting and MS in Management Information Systems.  She returned to A&M after working for five years in public accounting in PwC’s assurance practice in Dallas. Tara currently teaches Intermediate Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, and Internal Audit courses at Texas A&M.  She enjoys the opportunities she has to mentor students and also serves as an advisor for several student organizations.

Tara and her husband Evan met at Texas A&M and have been married five years. They enjoy cooking, gardening, and being active.

Bill Wantuck, BVCPA – Business & Industry

Bill Wantuck was a previous member of the Board from 1994 to 1996 and served on the Editorial Boardfor TSCPA’s Today’s CPA from 1996 to 1998 and on various TSCPA state-level committees from 1996 to 2003. Bill is also a Rotarian and served as Treasurer for the Bryan Texas club from 2003 to 2009 and served as a Board member and Chairman for the Brazos Valley/Heart of Texas American Red Cross from 2001 to 2010. Bill served as a member of the American Bankers Association Accounting Committee from 2010 to 2014.  Bill is the owner of Affinity Homes, a single-family home builder in the Brazos Valley, and Wantuck Enterprises, a bank, accounting, real estate and management consulting firm in College Station. Bill has thirty-seven years in banking in the Brazos Valley, Houston, Austin, New York City and New Mexico/Arizona. A Certified Public Accountant and Chartered Global Management Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Financial Services Auditor, Bill is a member of the AICPA and Institute of Internal Auditors.Bill earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Houston-Downtown. Bill has lived in Bryan/College Station since 1990.has lived in Bryan/College Station since 1990.

Sam Sommer
Sam graduated from Texas A&M University in 2007 with a BBA in Accounting and a MS in Finance. After six years in the private client services assurance practice of PwC in Houston, he returned home to Brenham to work for Blue Bell Creameries.
Sam joined the Chapter Board in 2017 as the Public Relations chair.

Sam and his wife Megan (also a CPA) have three children and enjoy any activity together that doesn’t end in screaming!

 

Justin Reeves, BVCPA – CPE Chair

Justin is a graduate of the Professional Program in Accounting at Texas A&M and received both a B.B.A. and an M.S. in Accounting. He became a CPA in February of 2016 and has worked as a tax associate for Brewer, Eyeington, Patout & Co. since June 2014. Justin is married to Laura Reeves, who is a middle school science teacher and a graduate of the education program at Texas A&M University. They share the hobby of cooking and entertaining their son Blake.

 

Brian Kapchinskie, BVCPA – Membership

bassBrian Kapchinskie is a tax manager in Seidel Schroeder’s College Station office where he specializes in small business and individual tax matters. He graduated from Texas A&M and the Professional Program in Accounting in 2006 with a BBA and MS in Accounting and has been a CPA since 2007. Brian is a Bryan native whose parents own and operate Martin’s Place, the oldest barbecue restaurant in Bryan.

 

Logan Kendrick, BVCPA – Newsletter

Logan graduated from Texas A&M as a member of the Class of 2012 and PPA Group 20, earning his BBA in Accounting, MS in Management and CPA license. He began his career as an audit associate in KPMG’s Dallas office working primarily in the real estate and financial services industry in addition to helping with on-campus recruiting, national recruiting conferences and the staff council. After almost three years at KPMG, Logan returned to College Station to continue his career at Thompson, Derrig & Craig working on audits for many local businesses and non-profit organizations as well as some advisory engagements.

Logan grew up in Crawford, Texas, and met his wife, Sarah, during their freshman year at A&M. Sarah taught elementary school for several years in the DFW area and is now completing her master’s degree at A&M while also looking forward to being a full-time mom when they welcome Conway (first baby!) into the world sometime around Thanksgiving 2016. Logan and Sarah enjoy outdoor activities, weekend trips with their golden retriever, Troup, and spending time with friends and family.

James Larkin, BVCPA  – Past President

James is a graduate of Texas A&M University with both a B.B.A. and a M.S. in Accounting. He became a CPA in 2000 after passing the exam on his first attempt and receiving the State of Texas’ Top 10 Award- given to the ten individuals with the highest scores for that year.  He gained extensive experience in individual and corporate tax consulting at Arthur Andersen and Ernst & Young prior to joining Thompson, Derrig & Craig in 2007.

James is a graduate of Leadership Brazos and has previously served on the Finance Council of the Brazos Children’s Museum.  He currently serves as the Chair of the Finance Council at St. Mary’s Catholic Church as well as the Vice Chair of Finance for the Better Business Bureau.

In 2010 he joined our Chapter board as the Public Relations Chair and served in that role for two years. He is now the President-Elect.  He serves on the TSCPA Investment Committee.

James is a big sports fan cheering the Aggie’s on in all sports.  His wife, Elicia, says there are two seasons in their household: football season and tax season.  During football season you’ll find James and his family cheering on the Aggies as well as the Cowboys and Texans.  This is his fifth season to officiate football as part of the local chapter of the Texas Association of Sports Officials.

Elicia and James have three children. Jacob is a rambunctious and inquisitive six-year-old, Sarah is their two-year-old social butterfly and Matthew is their easygoing six-month-old.  They all enjoy spending time at the park, the pool, and playing games they make up.

Amber Bass, BVCPA – Executive Director
bassAmber graduated from Texas A&M University with a BBA in accounting in May 1999. After entering the work force, she later received her CPA license in January 2006. Amber has worked for Greater Texas Foundation since 2001 in all of its many forms where she currently serves as controller. She has served on the board of the Brazos Valley Chapter of the Texas Society of CPA’s board since 2008 in many roles including secretary, treasurer, membership chair, and currently executive director.

Amber is married to Doug Bass and lives on their ranch in Brenham with their 3 daughters. Hannah (9), Kacey (7), and Presley (almost 2) keep them busy with their rodeo schedule most every weekend.
