VITA looking volunteers
This year Brazos Valley Council of Governments is designated as the lead agency for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program. The VITA sites have been community based since 2008. The purpose of these sites is to help low to moderate income families get their taxes prepared for free.
Offering this free service requires volunteers….lots of volunteers. Volunteers are needed to prepare taxes, serve as greeters, and provide site support. Training for all volunteer positions is provided by Brazos Valley Council of Government and the IRS. Volunteers receive ongoing support from qualified staff and experienced managers who review all tax returns and are available to answer questions. Volunteers are needed in the following counties: Brazos, Madison, Grimes and Washington.
Being a part of a volunteer community that helps its most needy members gives you a feeling of fulfillment. There are many ways to get involved with the VITA sites.
There is no liability to volunteers preparing income tax returns free of charge, as they are protected by the IRS and do not have any legal liability. Call soon to volunteer at a tax site in your area. Log on to the Volunteer Center of Brazos Valley www.volunteerbrazosvalley.org and sign up to be a VITA volunteer. We need you to make this help available.
Also needed are two site coordinators (paid part-time temporary positions), and a program coordinator (paid part-time temporary position). The Program Coordinator, site coordinators and preparers will receive training to become certified tax preparers.
If you have any questions please contact Vonda Morrison vmorrison@bvcog.org or 979.595-2800 ext. 2138.
HOPE TO SEE YOU THIS TAX SEASON!!!!!
