18th Annual KBTX Food for Families Food Drive

Thank you to the members that braved the cool weather Wednesday, December 11th, to represent our chapter and volunteered at the 18th Annual KBTX Food for Families Food Drive.  Food donated during the drive is sent to the Brazos Valley Food Bank, which in turn contributes to many local agencies and special projects.

Youth Career Fair

Thank you also to the chapter members that worked the Youth Career Fair, Wednesday, October 23rd, at the Brazos County Expo.  While it was tough to compete with the Harley-Davidson booth, complete with motorcycle, next to us, our accounting game and more likely the candy  we dispensed, offered us the opportunity to provide hundreds of area junior high students with a glimpse of the accounting profession.

 Scholarship Applications

Each year our chapter awards four scholarships to students who will be attending institutions of higher education.  Two of these scholarships go to students at Texas A&M University, and we award two more $1,000 scholarships to dependents of BVTSCPA chapter members.  We will begin accepting applications in January.  Forms to apply will be available online at or by contacting Linda Johnson or 979-690-5776.

 Financial Literacy

TSCPA is looking for media spokespeople to serve as experts on a reporter query website named ProfNet. TSCPA subscribes to this service and sifts through many queries each day from reporters all over the country, responding to those in which a CPA might be able to assist the reporter. ProfNet also has a database of experts that reporters can search through when looking for sources for their stories.

We would like to create a number of Expert Profiles to assist reporters with their stories. Your contact information will not be posted; there will be only a photo and brief description of your areas of expertise. To volunteer or learn more about the Expert Profiles, email or phone Avery at 800-428-0272 ext. 688 / 972-687-8688.
